Modern endodontic treatment to save a damaged tooth

What It Is

The Procedure That Saves the Tooth You Already Have

A root canal removes the infected nerve and pulp from inside a damaged tooth, cleans the empty canal, and seals it with a biocompatible material. A custom crown placed afterward protects the restored tooth so it can chew normally for the next decade or longer.

The point of the procedure is not the procedure itself. The point is that you keep the tooth. A natural tooth is structurally and biologically better than any implant, even a great one. Saving it is almost always the better long-term move when a root canal is an option.

You may need a root canal if you're experiencing:

  • Throbbing or constant tooth pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the food is gone
  • A tooth that hurts when you bite down
  • A small bump or pimple on the gum near a tooth
  • Darkening or discoloration of a single tooth
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums around one tooth

What's Actually True Today

The Procedure Has Changed. The Reputation Hasn't Caught Up.

Most of what people fear about root canals comes from procedures done forty years ago. Modern technique is fundamentally different.

What's actually true today:

  • The success rate is well over 95%, exceeding 95% in our own practice
  • The procedure is performed under full local anesthesia, so the tooth is completely numb
  • Sedation options are available if you want them, including light oral sedation
  • Many cases finish in one visit, not multiple appointments
  • The American Association of Endodontists describes the experience as "as routine and comfortable as receiving a dental filling"

Why It Matters

A Real Tooth Always Wins Over a Replacement

The decision in front of you is usually between a root canal that saves the tooth or an extraction that removes it and creates a new problem to solve.

A saved tooth keeps your bite the way it is. It chews the way you're used to. It doesn't shift the teeth on either side. It costs less than the extraction-plus-implant alternative, often by a factor of three or four.

An extracted tooth leaves a gap, and that gap doesn't stay a gap. The neighboring teeth tilt in. The opposing tooth drifts. The bone in that area starts to recede. The eventual fix is an implant, a bridge, or a partial, and every option is more expensive than the root canal would have been.

When a root canal is a viable option, it is almost always the right call.

Investment & Insurance

Most Insurance Covers Root Canals. We Handle the Paperwork.

Root canal therapy is one of the most commonly covered procedures in dental insurance because it saves the tooth, which is cheaper for everyone in the long run.

We accept all major PPO insurances, including Delta, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, MetLife, Guardian, Ameritas, Principal, and BlueCross BlueShield, and our team files your claim for you. For anything not covered, CareCredit financing and flexible monthly payment plans break the cost into amounts that fit a normal budget.

Your free new-patient consultation includes a clear diagnosis, a written, itemized quote, and an explanation of exactly what your insurance is expected to cover before any work begins.

What to Expect

One or Two Visits. Pain Gone. Tooth Saved.

  1. Diagnosis

We examine the tooth, take a digital X-ray, confirm whether a root canal is the right call, and quote the work in writing. Free for new patients.

  2. The Procedure

We numb the tooth completely, remove the infected pulp, clean and shape the canal, and seal it with biocompatible material. Sedation is available if you want it. Many cases finish in one visit.

  3. The Crown

A custom crown is placed afterward to protect the restored tooth and let you chew normally. We schedule this around your life, not the other way around.
